Everyone in the country needs to have at least a basic grip on English. How many people who don't speak English have drivers licenses? Yet all road signs are in what? ENGLISH. I would not move to another country without learning the language first. There is nothing wrong with being someone that doesn't use English as a first language, just know enough to communicate on a basic level and be able to read on a basic level, as well.

I say if you live in the US, you should know English (or American) to be functional in this country (able to vote, read road signs, etc).

Also note, that many immigrants fall back to their native language b/c, well, they just forget to use their new language. And some people, no matter where they're from, are just not good at speaking or using language.

It is good manners to speak the language of the country that your living in so as to beable to engage in social interaction with others of the same nationality that your living amongst. There's no drama I think in speaking your native language when at home, but yeah, walk the walk and talk the talk of the locals when your out and about amongst them. If a person truly is serious about moving countries where they language is different, it's common courtesy to beable to communicate with them. (And your not racist....just asking a question that's all) :)
