it's hard to give a person what grade they would like to teach...before student teaching, i did not want to go any higher than 2nd grade...i saw myself in the primary grades...then during student teaching i had 2 placements....6th grade and 1st....i LOVED 6th grade....i now teach 5th grade (going into my 2nd year)..i would not want to teach the younger kids now...i just love the older ones..you will just have to see where you fit in.good luck :)

am in the process of finishing up my college education. I chose to go into early childhood education and I do not regret it one bit. Early childhood education allows you to teach grades preschool through third grade. If you would consider teaching the younger students, you must need patience because the students at that age need an understanding, caring, flexible teacher. If you have a hard time with that, I suggest going into middle childhood education which is grades four through nine. The kids are older and you have the opportunity to teach higher levels of thinking. There is also young adult education which is all the high school grades. You would need to be firm with those ages because students can walk all over you. Maybe you could look into shadowing a teacher at the various grade levels to get an idea of what grade you might like to teach. I got to tell you too. No matter what grade you decide upon, you are going to have responsibilities. Reading is an intimidating subject to teach students but each year, students learn something "big". Unfortunately, you are going to face attitude from all grade levels. However, the younger children are so sweet and dear and are more eager and willing to learn!
Good luck and have fun! Teaching is a rewarding career to enter into!

3rd and 4th grade are the best. I have been in k, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and i would say 3 and 4th 5th can b ok but some schools r different get attitudes.

I've taught kids in every single grade. Let me give you the lowdown. 4th grade is the first grade where you stop teaching them how to read. So you might not want to go younger than that, if emergent readers are not your thing. Prior to 4th grade, the kids act up more or less because they can't control themselves. 4th - 5th grade, they start experimenting with acting up just for the heck of it. Yes, they may test your limits. However, they are still little children. It's not until 6th or 7th grade that they REALLY start having attitude and being resistant to authority. IMO, 4th is the best grade to teach. Remember, children of any age can be badly behaved. But if you are firm and give them lots of structure, you can always manage them. I say this from experience. I've taught in one of the worst schools in NYC.

A child is a child is a child no matter what grade they are in but I can tell you this much that reading and writing skills are the one major downfall of some kids in 1st and 2nd grade lately and lets face it without those skills they cant participate properly in so many things. They need good teachers in those grades to ensure that they dont fall behind. Reading and writing is the foundation to everything they will do in school and is the one thing that can determine whether a child falls behind or not. Give 1st and 2nd grade a chance for those reasons if any .

2nd....they're still young but old enough to read most basic words, they can write and start to do things independently. Yes 4th graders have an attitude.

I've taught 1st to 8th and kids are kids. Attitude comes in all shapes and sizes. If you are meant to teach you should be able to teach any grade.
