I am not sure for everyone, but in my experience, it always makes the red spots redder.

It works for me, but I do not apply ice directly , I wrap it in kleenex and hold next to the pimple for about 10 seconds. Then I put a dab of Visine eye drops, it helps to remove redness by constricting tiny blood vessels (the same way it helps to get rid of
the eye redness). I heard about this trick from a professional makeup artist.

Depends on what the cause of the redness is. If the cause is dilated blood vessels (capillaries) theoratically applying ice will result in vasoconstriction and reduce redness for maybe a few minutes. But if you apply the ice long enough, it will cause release of histamine and other vasoactive substances causing even more redness.

yes, just as heat will draw out a pimple head, something cool will reduce redness and swelling, though i wouldn't suggest ice right on the skin, that would make it even more red.

Try a hot washcloth instead. If the red spot you have is raised, it'll help the swelling go down.

I never used ice, even on bruises for that very reason, they gave me redness AND swelling...no idea why some people say differently.

NO! Infact, putting ice on your face, especially directly, will cause even more redness because it will break the tiny capillaries under the skin. (Those teeny tiny little red veins). Once ruptured they stay forever unless removed by laser treatment.

it will reduce the inflammation. So if the redness is a result of swelling, like a zit and not a cut or abrasion, yes.

why do you need the ice? how about a little dab of coverup? that will be your best bet, probably.
