Familiarity brings comfort to most species. What you know you feel protected in and what you dont know makes you unsure, nervous and unable to be comfortable. Therefore you live in what you know. So things that are like themselves, deal best with thier exacts. Anything out of the norm makes you edgy and most creatures enjoy comfort over aggravation.

If you are speaking of real birds, it is because they are usually all the same species and there is usually a "pecking" order in each species.
