I have been at the same job for about 4 years now. Its a very good job. However, someone sent me a job they thought would interest me. Even though I didnt have their exact criteria, I applied (on Sunday) and got a call back about my qualifications (on Tuesday). The hiring manager said that the next step would be that another person would call me with an interview time. I have not heard anything since. I am beginning to think that either I came off stupid in the screening, or that I do not have the qualifications they are looking for. I decided to follow up with a question about the job. The hiring manager got back to me very promptly and gave me her email address. She said she would be out of the office for the most part tomorrow but will be back on Monday if I would like to speak to her then. I let her know that I was still excited about this potential opportunity. What is your opinion? Should I ask her if I am still being considered for the position? Do I look desperate?

no you do not look desperate, what you did is all correct procedure. Maybe the people they are considering all have other jobs presently so they are in no hurry to hire. And when they decide their pickings will be fewer people to interview.

Usually if your education doesn't "exactly" match then you need to continue filling out applications with other companies where your education and experience does a good fit. It's always better if you have a few to choose from than worrying about if and when they are going to call you back. And, these days some jobs give you 2 or 3 interviews. Keep applying at places if you're interested in another job.

By the way, if you needed a new car now is the time to buy one since you have some seniority built up on your present job..

You also need to be wary of who sent you that job offer...does someone want your job? Does your company want to know if you're loyal to them? There are lots of tricks in the business world.

The fact that the company hasn't called you back doesn't necessarily mean anything. In looking for a new job recently, at least 90% of the managers who said they would call me at a given time did not call at that time or even on that day. They are very inconsiderate, but there is nothing you can do about it. And they also generally have lots of candidates they are considering.

We don't know what line of work this is or if it is a reputable company or not. What is the industry? What would your job be? Is there training?

At the out set though I must say I am suspicious. You say you don't have all the qualities they want - but they are ready to hire you? It is a tight job market. I would try and find out more information on the company. What is the name? See if they are ripoffreport.com.

Good luck!
