These are all great answers but if you want to be technical about it, the longest reigning world champion is still Bob Backlund. Meaning he is still the champion today. Nobody has beaten Bob Backlund since he defeated the Iron Shiek. He was never pinned nor did he ever give up.

If you want the World Heavyweight Champion than it is Batista,he beated HHH's record by 2 days.
The WWE championship longest reign is Bruno Samartino,I'm not that sure,but I think it was 7 years.
