I think he did love animals--but put himself in harm's way too often for a dad of little children.

He Died doing what he loved, and that was being with animals. And to say that he was anything less than an animal lover would then just be stupid.
The only reason he put himself in danger is to educate people about different animals, and also to open his zoo's and to help rehome animals into an environment that was as natural as possible.
He is a great person and done a lot of good things for the people and animals of this world.
I think he would have died happily, and his wife and children will be very proud of him, and his legacy.
A Sad loss for all the world..

Late but not great.
He was a rather silly little man, prancing around making a fool of himself. He used and exploited animals in what I found a very objectionable way. He lacked respect, which is why I can't give him any. And it is not surprising that someone who forced himself on animals so crudely finally got his come-uppance so rudely.
I don't know anything about his family, though I should think they loved him. But then that probably applies to most people. He must have been a good provider too. My condolences.

Yes! He was passionate about his love for animals and it broke his heart when he would lose one.I remember when his little dog ,Suey, died and all of the family and staff at the zoo took turns sitting with her and Steve slept on the floor in the dog-bed with her;and how when one of his favourite alligators(or it may have been a croc)died,he pulled her body from the water, sobbing. Then they had a funeral for it and buried it there at the zoo.I remember him saying how he loved that animal like he loved his wife. And he,s passed on that love of animals to his kids, and I think that the world's a better place for having had him around,if only for a short time.We other animal lovers will truly miss him;he was a great personR.I.P.Steve.

He did some crazy **** but I really love that he was all about saving and protecting wildlife... there needs to be more people in the world like him.... he taught me so much about animals and that will help me later to teach my children and got me interested in becoming a zoologist too so... I think he was a great man!

when i use to watch him when he first started being on tv i thought he was abit over the top and i thought man no one can act this way all the time- but he was a genuine guy and that was the way he really was-funny how you reflect on people after they pass away, now i see him as someone who was passionate and enthusaistic with what he did- and yeah i feel really sorry for his wife and especially his daughter and son who never got to know his dad- It's really sad :(

I love him and also he is definitely an animal lover. Also it is kind of hard to believe he is dead because he could handle crocs so well. Sometimes some of the things he did scared me though.

I thought he was great! So enthusiastic and he really made zoology interesting.
He must of loved animals and cared for them to have his own zoo.
