No, from what I understand it was quick and he lost consciousness as soon as he removed the poisonous barb. RIP Steve!

In a fight for your life pain is secondary to survival. He obviously knew he was 'hit' because he pulled out the barb, amazing in its own right. What ever he felt he lost conciseness very quickly and was gone before they got him out of the water and into the dingy. He's gone to the great zoo in the sky for all the good deeds he has done for animals and this planet. St. Peter is now asking him "just exactly what does Crikey mean?" I already miss him. I had a similar feeling when the word about Princess Di came through. I can't think of a more fitting way to go for this guy. He was not going to be an old man, no way. He lived two or three life times in his 44 yrs. "Do not ask for whom the bell tolls, for it tolls for thee." John Donne

i think he was in extreme pain(unfortunally) at least untill he was only half consious the pain was probly reduced so actucly RIGHT before his death in the last moments he was probly NOT in alot of pain i just wish he hadent pull the bard from his chest beacause if he hadent he would have had a better chance of survival

When you go into heart failure it's not the most pleasant experience. You really don't have a lot of pain and usually your not conscious. But I think the initial sting of the ray hurt him.

No, in all likely hood he felt no pain (his death was probably instananeous) but we will really never know for sure. Some say he was alive when they pulled him out of the water. It's possible but not very likely.

No between the shock and the water relieving the pressure I think it may not have been as bad if he were above water

unfortunately i think he was in pain for a couple of scary minutes...... first the barb piercing him and then pulling out a serrated barb..... he obviously felt it pierce him to pull it out..... and it must have hurt badly for a few moments before he died.....

when i first heard that the barb had pierced his heart i thought well he probably wasn't in any pain...but then when i heard he pulled it out...i knew that had to hurt.....
