Eat lightly for the 24 to 36 hours prior to the race. Try to stick with fruits such as bananas or kiwi. Drink plenty of fluids the day of the race, but moderate your intake in the few hours before the race to prevent cramps. While racing, relax your shoulders, keep your arms steady (no swinging), hands open (no fists), pace yourself, and regulate your breathing. If you have long hair, it is a good idea to secure it behind your head for better aerodynamics. A comfortable pair of running shoes will always give you an advantage. Be sure to stretch thoroughly for about 30 minutes prior to the race and jog lightly for about 15 minutes to warm up your muscles. Hope these tips help. Good luck.

I was in cross country in high school and college. I could run a 5K in about 15:30. Not the best but not too shabby either. Now, as i turn 31, I can barely run a mile. Just get plenty of rest (do NOT run before the day of the race!!!), eat well, and stay hydrated. And make sure you properly stretch before and after the race. That is VERY important. Lastly, stay mentally positive. Hope you trained hard! Good luck!

eat a nice carb meal the night before--carb up. Pasta is good. Make sure you are well hydrated and well rested. Carry a small snack in your pocket if you want, like raisins. Run your own race. I hope this helps. I have never done a 5K, just a marathon. Good luck and have fun!

Hydrate days before the run, practice daily, and when the race gets here, run really fast but not so fast that you fall out. Run just fast enough to beat the others. Do not look back. Keep a focal point always ahead of you and aim for it like it's the end of the rainbow!

day before - eat lots of carbs, like pasta, and get a good nights sleep.
hour before - eat a small meal high in carbs. I like oatmeal. drink water.
during - 5k is not that far. Find a fast pace that you can keep up the entire race, dont try to 'save yourself' for the end. dont bother stopping for water on the way, anything you drink now wont help you anyway.

get a good sleep the day before, watch your diet and your weight. And do your own running, do not watch every other people's moves, concentrate on yours
