Many places sell phone sets that have two bases, and the second base needs no phone jack, just power. Hook the master up in the house, set the slave unit in the garage, you're there!

Do you have power in the garage? If you do, the easiest thing to do is to purchase a set of cordless phones where there is a separate handset with charger stand. The base station can sit by the window closest to the garage, and the remote can be in the garage.

Otherwise, know that telephone wiring only involves two wires. (called TIP and RING) You can just make parallel connection to the two center pins of the jack and extend it to where it needs to go.

Keep in mind, telephone wire does carry weak but high (over 100 volts) so when you bury it in the ground, make sure you use either direct buriable cable or conduit. Then just terminate it on the other end.

Radio shack does have a cordless phone jack extender unit that may work depending on how far your garage is away from your house.... That might be an alternative to running a phone line out along side the electical wires.

And there are some 5.8 cordless phones that have a range of about 300 feet and a base that might be a choice for you.

The main base is plugged in inside to a jack and the one in the garage only needs electic to plug into.

Get one of the phone sets that come with a wireless satelite set.
If you already have a phone or FAX that you want to set up in the garage, like a home office, get a InstaJack Wireless Phone Line Jack for Telephones from GE. It is a remote wireless phone jack that connects your other stuff as well as a phone.

;-D Wireless is the 'In Thing' now anyway!

Splice into the telephone box and run a regular telephone line, (you can buy them at Wal*Mart) and either put it overhead to your garage, or you can run it through a pvc pipe underground, whichever is easier for you. On the inside of the garage, get a jack to install. It's really an easy job.
