Lilac is only one shade of purple.

There is probably an infinite number of shades of purple. For instance, if you start one shade away from "true" purple, you can always move half way closer. Then you can move half way closer again...and again...and again...never reaching (but approaching) "true" purple. This "half step" pattern can continue, in theory at least, indefinitely.

technically, an infinite amount as you are approaching black, white, red, and blue
