I think the education system has been in a crisis ever since they decided to play social worker to kids, and stopped teaching them.

DO NOT USE YA as a school tool measurement!!!

Yes, the school system is in crisis. It has been since the 1950's when people stopped struggling for education and it became a chore rather than a privilege.

You should not use YA as a measurement of the American education system since people from around the world us it too. Also, many political comments are given by non-Americans. Some of the answerer's barley read and write in the English language, but they're trying. Additionally, you are not of generation "i" (as in "i" internet - "i" i-pod ) and the language has changed. Instead of critizing people for communicating at top speed (which is were we're at) try going out of your box and learning this new technological language instead of asking us to waste hours spelling every thing out. This new language is more like the tele-gram. Abriviations, and fill in the blanks are manditory!

Every once in awhile you can sift through the mountain of garbage and find some sane, "educated", non-hate filled ideas. But it sure seems like you have to dig deep some days. I actually have hope for this country with ideas I hear coming from a majority of the younger people. They actually seem to be a lot more open minded and aware of world events than say 10 or 20 years ago. Hope?????

Don't base your opinion on anything you read in Yahoo answers. If people want real answers, they go to the appropriate source(s). This is just an avenue for nights when you are bored and nothing good is on t.v. Kinda like playing a board game.

But, I think that you will find that the lower Bush goes in the polls, and the tougher the races get in the next two months for Republicans, the meaner and nastier their ilk will become. You will recognize the icons/names and learn to skip over them or move on to another catagory until after the elections are over.

I like to think I help represent the educated folks of this land (USA) but I must admit I am constantly seeing plenty of evidence that today's youngsters are ridiculously ignorant. They don't learn diddly squat in school anymore, its more like a social networking gathering place than an institution of learning. And its entirely understandable given the level of funding that public schools receive... eventually we won't even bother to provide our kids with any sort of classical education... we should just start training them to be good worker bees from an early age.

I'll be honest with you. I have encountered very few intelligent people on here and I do wonder if this is indicative of our educational system.

However, I myself have an Ivy League education (not bragging, just making a point) yet I find myself giving less intelligent answers because I rarely come across intelligent questions.

Coragryph and Jesi are two people that I can think of that give intelligent answers to sub-par questions, and I often wonder if they are wasting their time because quite often than not, their points are completely misinterpreted. Why should I waste my time with an articulate answer to John Skerry's moronic malevolent question?

There are a few.

After a while you just skip over the elementary school types who are just here to call someone who doesn't share their opinion a nasty name....

Oh, it scares the crap out of me to read responses from young people, who are very uninformed! But this isn't new, just easier to see when presented like this.
