It is ok and your coworker will really feel gooud about it, I can guarantee it.
However, because it is a large company you work for and you wouldn't want to start rumors or give others a reason to talk about you in a non-positive way, try to be descrete about it. Only you can know where a good place would be to give it to them.
By the way, that is a very nice gesture from you.

I would think he appreciates it, but make sure he doesn't open it at work. Many companies have rules that prohibits any alcohols in workplace. Even if they do not, some people do not approve of drinking and your friend may appreciate the fact you don't publicize the fact he does drink.
Note, this has nothing to do with the fact drinking is good or bad, or his drinking is social or severe. It has everything to do with maintaining his reputation in the eyes of others. Since nobody has control over what others think, but what others think has everything to do with how successful one will be at a company, it would be safe to keep it personal.

your colleague would probably appreciate it. However, since it is a large company they may have a rule like "no alcohol on the premises" so you may want to give it to them in the parking lot.

I think it's appropriate, but you should pull them to the side and give them the gift, not because what you're doing is wrong, but to avoid hurt or offended feelings of others for not getting them a gift too.

I work in a large place too and if someone brings me a big bottle of Jack Daniels, it's MARVELOUS day and that person will always get help from me from then on.
Just make sure they aren't in AA or something...otherwise, it's cool!

I think so. People who drink like not having to pay for alcohol whenever possible.

I think it's a little iffy, but you'd probably be OK depending on your relationship with them.
