On June 23, 1917, Babe Ruth (Boston Red Sox) walked the first batter in a game against the Washington Senators. Ruth was so enraged with the calls made by umpire Brick Owens that he tried to strike Owens, swore at him, and was ejected. Ernie Shore came in to replace Ruth. The runner on first was caught stealing, and Shore proceeded to retire the next 26 batters. All 27 outs were made while Shore was on the mound. This was once recognized as a perfect game by Major League Baseball. It still counts as a valid combined no-hitter.

Ernie Shore did after the Babe was ejected from the game for cursing out Brick Owens, the umpire! He retired the next 26 batters!

It was Ernest Grady Shore for the Boston Red Sox.... Babe Ruth walked the first batter and he was so angry at Umpire Brick Owens that he got ejected for cussing at him... The Runner was Ray Morgan. Shore came in to pitch for Ruth and he picked of Morgan and retired the next 26 batters.

Oh yeah... it was against the Washington Senators

Ernie Shore but I'm not sure he's technically credited with a perfect game since he only retired 26 batters. For no hitter you have to retire 27 to avoid having pitchers credited with no hitters in rain shortened games etc.

Ernie Shore is not credited with a perfect game. He is credited only with being the second pitcher in a combined no-hitter.

A legendary no-hitter, nevertheless.
