Both can act and belt out a tune...but who is better, Bette or Barbra?

How do you compare two strikingly different performers and have one of them come out the "winner"?
As artists, Streisand and Midler both started in small gay clubs in New York. Both have achieved superstar status over the years. Streisand's voice has positioned her as a timeless performer in the league of Sinatra or Garland. Midler has probably done more films and has retained her bawdy humor and love of live performing.
Still, they are world's apart as far as their "acts".
Streisand is reserved, shy, demands that an audience listen and pay attention.
Midler is a ham, enjoys the spotlight, and likes to tell a good joke.
For me, it is not possible to choose a winner. I like the old saying, "To each his own". Bette will appeal to others, while Barbra attracts a different sort of fan. Some people like both of them. Others despise both.
By the way, physical attractiveness has nothing to do with either's talent. Only in the pop world of 2006 would someone bring up Streisand or Midler's physical appearance. Once upon a time, artists were famous for actually being talented. Without stripping off their clothes or doing hoochie-mamma music videos, Streisand and Midler both attained fame. Although Midler's style involves breast jokes, she never got "Dirrty" or acted overtly sexual (Mimi?) to gain an audience.

Oh my what a question.
Bette Midler is the funniest of the two. But Barbra Streisand can belt out a song like no one I have ever heard. She can hold a note longer than any person I know. I will say, I do like them both. They are very talented woman.
