I just can't see how things hundreds of thousands of miles away can affect our behavior and our actions.

It does not effect your behavior in the way you think....like you becoming a totally different person. I used to work the night shift as a nurse and I did not have to go look to see if the moon was full. We ALWAYS knew. Why, because things people do became more apt to happen...falling out of bed, being confused, getting up and tripping...babies being BORN out the wazoo and the ER, oh man, the ER.

What was it? It is pressure on the brain. It elevates the blood pressure and causes stress on the body, only slightly. But for some who are on the edge already, with the other foot on a banana peel? It is enough. Mothers who are OVERdue in pregnancy will usually go while the moon is full, or at least it will get them to dilate a bit and then they go one in a week or so.

There was a rule down in the country where they used "tin" roofing on a regular basis...you NEVER put it on under a full moon! Why? It would warp and pull up the nails on one side. Go figure!

The moon also controls the tides of the oceans. NOW, that is pretty strong. It is all about gravity and the force (push) of gravity vs the pull of gravity. One or the other is greater at times.

Most definitely. I have studied astrology for years. It is very complex, but fascinating science. I believe this is something you could study your whole life and still learn. I have done countless of natal charts, lovers compatibility, and my clients are always amazed at the accuracy.

Simply put, astrology is based on the relationships between the planets, the Sun and the Moon; and the twelve areas of a person’s life, called the houses. Even after thousands of years, astrology is still the most complex psychological model available, offering an explanation for phenomena science just cannot address.

It defines your strengths and weakness and is based on the positions of each planet at the exact moment of your birth. Your astrology chart is as unique as your finger print, and no two people have the same chart, not even identical twins.

It has been described as a stairway leading into the deeper self. When you understand yourself you have a better understanding of the world around you. Astrology holds out the promise that you do not have to pass through life reacting blindly to experience, that you can within limits direct your own destiny and in the process reach a truer self understanding. It is the world’s oldest science and our generation’s newest subject of inquiry. Despite this new surge of interest, however, the general public has very little knowledge about the subject. It is not a dark art, and smart people use it everyday.

No I don't.

There's no support for astrology whatsoever. It's either frequently wrong, or, more often, so vague as to apply to anyone.

As for the moon, there are people who claim that there is an effect, but I believe it's more to do with the light itself, and many people's belief in an effect.

Yes, the moon effects the tides, but people's personalities aren't massive oceans of water.

PS I answered before reading the existing answers, and I really like the first one: Movement of the planets effects astrologers.

OK, maybe the moon has enough effect on the human body to make some things likelier for some people. I was thinking of the more outrageous claims that have been made about the moon -- most of that IS about the light.

No, the planets don't affect people. The moon may, as women's periods are on a lunar rather than solar cycle, but that has nothing to do with whether you should get married today or wait till something is "in conjunction" with something else.

They affect our gravitational pull and I think there is proof that some people act weird around full moons. It affects the stock market as well as that homeless guy by the freeway.

I think statistically the know it does.. the reason is debatable.. the best explanation I've heard so far is that there is more light at night therefore more people are out doing behaviors they might not have otherwise done.

The moon probably does to a small degree. The other planets? No.

Of course they do. Since they reflect sunlight, then some wackos back here on earth can spot their position and make quacky horoscopes based on this.

Therefore, the placement of planets affects Astrologists the most and their gullible followers second.

Actually, no. Astrology is just a semblance mechanism to help us understand who we are as people. Another Semblance mechanism is the ancient greek, 4 personality types: Sanguin, Meloncholy, Choloric, and Phlagmatic.
