It's such a waste of time! I wouldn't attend a protest for my life!

I agree. It's a complete waste of time. If politicians want to base their laws on public opinion, they can look at the stats. The people making the decisions really don't care about a protest.

Voting is much more effective. And directly contacting a senator or representative is even more effective than voting.

Protesting is showing your point of view on an issue that is important to you. You do not have to attend protests to protest something. You can tell someone, that's not cool, when the other person teases someone maliciously. You can write a letter to the president/congress to share your ideas about what is or is not being done. These are other forms of protest. These forms are more personal because you are reaching out as an individual to change the behavior of other individuals.

I think what youre asking is why do people take part in organized protests against thier government. I want you to understand that there are many different contexts that you can say protest in. In its simplest form its voicing that youre not willing to do something or put up with something. A more appropriate way of asking is why dont people lie down so theyre easier to kick. I dont know either.

because after African Americans protested being forced to sit at the back of the bus, people listened and now they can sit wherever they want. If something really affects you, you'd want it to be positive, right?

~And that is why the 60's are dead, why something like the Patriot Act can be passed, why we can violate all manner of international law and engage in pre-emptive wars and why the bible thumpers control the government.
