Just boot up your computer with the Microsoft Windows 2000 CD in the CD drive. Make sure you DON'T format the hard drive, just let it be installed under it's default directory which is WINNT. (XP remains in the WINDOWS directory). Once you have Windows 2000 properly installed you can safely remove the WINDOWS directory. All of your stuff in Documents and Setting and Program Files will be untouched.

No it is not possible because I believe windows 2000 uses a fat system and xp uses ntfs, you could get a piece of software called partition magic and have both systems operating but am not sure how that works. Do you realise that microsoft has stopped making security patches for any other systems than XP and Vista? If you do this and go back to 2000 you will be leaving security of xp for a system that is old and with all the new threats coming out you will be leaving yourself open to attack. Why don't you burn your info that you want to keep onto discs if you desperately want to go back to 2000?

When you install a new operating system your old info on your hard drive will be lost!!!!!!! Try going for XP pro. Much better than the version that came with your system. Or go to a Linux system like I have. User interface is the same as windows but much more advanced. Problem with Win 2000 is it is so out of date, and was used for such a short time not many programs are compatible... But whatever you do, you have to save all your info on another storage device before you proceed.!!!

You can add a second hard drive and install 2000 to it. Most motherboards let you choose which hard drive you want to boot from.
That way you can keep XP around if things go wrong and switch back and forth as you need.
Look for the Boot options in your BIOS when you first turn on your computer.

Boot up to a BartPE CD, rename the existing Windows, Program Files, and Documents and Settings Folders, then boot the 2000 CD and install.
