I am 27 weeks pregnant, I had an ultrasound at 10 weeks. I thought i would get another one at my 20 weeks. They never gave me one. When one of the nurses were covering for my doctor she told me she would send in for an ultrasound. When i went to set the date, they told me they were not doing any appointments for that month. This was back in june, i went to my doctors appointment on the 27th of July and i met my doctor and asked about the ultrasound. He told me she never sent in for one and i wasnt going to get one because it was recommended. That was at 20 weeks i believe or less than that. I would like an ultrasound to make sure the baby is okay and i also want to know if the baby is growing okay. But i really dont know how to ask? i have a doctors appointment next week and plan on bring this to my doctors attention. This just does not seem normal to me that they wouldnt give me another one. Any suggestions on how to ask for one?

Just tell them you are concerned and you feel better and less stressed knowing the baby is growing and safe.

have they measured your baby at all? they should have already done this about 5-7 weeks a go. Tell your doctor that you want an ultrasound done. it should not be this difficult for you to get one!!! I've had about four or five done already and I'm 28 weeks along. one last week one about a month ago, and one each the last two weeks of June. (around 17-18 weeks)...if you don't get what you want, try changing physicians. it's not too late. I mean, if they haven't really done anything for you where you are going now, I don't see the harm in changing doctors

good luck

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the doc can do other tests to make sure the baby is ok. But if he tells you not to have one at your next appointment, I'd probably go to another docter. I know its hard to change docs this far through your pregnancy, but your doc should be thinking of you and have your best intrest at heart and if you want an ultrasound then he should give you one, anyway, good luck with the whole thing and I hope someone can give you a better answer.

Just open your mouth and demand one. You are entitled to one, so make sure you get it as part of the care you deserve now that you are pregnant. Don't let anyone dissuade you from doing this.
I had to ask for a scan, but it was in a different situation. I had my 20 week scan and the sonographer told me that I had a low lying placenta- nothing for me to spend time worrying about, because that problem usually fixed itself, but that he would give me an appointment for a scan in about ten weeks time. It wasn't until I got home that I realised I had been sent home without a new appointment, so at my next appointment with the midwife, I asked for one.
It's your baby, demand the care that you need!
Congratulations on your pregnancy, and good luck for the future!

they should do one 4 sure a lot of problems even small problems like a clubbed foot can be seen on ultrasound. You need to push for one. They are usually done between 18 20 weeks because everything is developed enough to catch a issue then.

I'm surprised that you haven't had another ultrasound. I know it's hard to do, but I would demand one for the health of your baby and even possibly to see the sex of the baby. You need an ultrasound to make sure that everything is going well with your baby and there aren't any difficulties.

I know how you feel. But did hear about the new study on how ultrasounds may effect the fetus? As long as your measuring fine and the heartbeat is normal you should be fine! If you really feel that strongly just tell your doctor that you are nervous and need reassurance that everything is okay! Its worth a try! Good Luck!

You should've had one around 18-20 weeks to check the heart and look at the sex of the baby if you wished to know. Maybe you should see another doctor.....Tell your doctor you demand an ultrasound it's not like he pays for it to be done...you or your insurance does...tell him you want to know the sex of your baby. If he's not having one done he must be sure the baby is healthy but you should demand it if you want it...don't let him tell you otherwise!!

Just ask. Doctors can't read your mind.

Your insurance company may not pay for the ultrasound if you don't have a medical reason to have it done. There are places that do them just to see the baby and take pictures, but those you have to pay for yourself.

Be thankful that everything is going well, and congratulations!

As far as I am concerned most insurances only cover one ultrasound, unless there is a concern or problem. They will not give to only find out the sex of the baby. You could pay out of pocket if you really want one.

Just come right out and ask!! You have rights as a patient - aka the patients' bill of rights. It may be that your doctor doesn't like ultrasounds or some other reason.

I had mine at 18 weeks and also found out the sex of the baby!!

Either way, you have every right to ask!!!
