Hello, I've lost my first job I ever had :(

I don't know how to cope with things like this - for this is my first time. Does this mean I am forced to live out in the streets? I can't pay my rent for October and I think I'll starve. I'm so scared! I'm stuck and I don't know what to do because getting another job can take a long time.

depending on where you are...options are everywhere. Friends? I would not let any of my friends be out on the street..nor without a meal. Go to a local Manpower Govt agency that enlists a whole registry of companies looking for people to work. Also, temp agencies are a help. May not be just exactly what you have in mind but until the crunch is over it will help with the bills. Don't give up...I had to work 3 jobs one time just to make ends meet. Jobs ARE out there...but you gotta find em!

I know that can be very difficult. Best of luck. If you worked more than a certain number of months you can try for unemployment but I believe you must have been employed continuasly for the past year or something. Also, if you quit you can't get it. If they fired you and they want to fight it they can make it very hard for you to get it. Basically, its a long process good luck because its hard to get unemployment. Also if you ever did actually go through the process and get a paycheck, it would be an average of what you made worked out so you would only get a small amount each week. Start pawning things or something. Take out a loan if you are able. Keep looking for another job I don't know what else you can do.

There are a MILLION things you can do. One good one is if there is a library around go there and tell a librarian what your problem is. Most are nice, and their job is helping people find information. The librarian could probably tell you of governmental agencies or private organizations that can give you further help. While there, you could also ask for a good book to read! Whatever your reading level the librarian will be able to suggest something that will be good for you :)

Also, you had the smarts and ability to sit at a computer and ask for help. You have more going for you than you think.

Make it a job looking for a job. If you spend 8 hours a day at work then spend 8 hours a day looking for work. Put together a good resume so they see you're prepared. And don't take no for an answer. Go back to companys you called on. One job I got was because I was so persistent. I went to the office every day for two weeks. They said they gave me the job because I was so persistent.
And even if the job doesn't call for it dress nice.
Plus always use eye contact. And a firm handshake.

Genius don't sweat it! Go out TOMORROW and put in applications at every place you go by. If they don't give you an application just give them your generalized resume. Also find out if there are any temp agencies in your area. If you fill out their paperwork they may be able to put you to work that day. There is always something. I live in a town with like NO JOBS so i have to commute to work just to get a job to pay my bills. I know it can be done you just have to look really hard. Hense your internet usage right now, sell some stuff on ebay, you can make enough cash to cover food and gas that way until you get a job!

GOOD LUCK!

this happens to many people, every day..
what you should do, I know this from eexperience..
You need to go to the closest fast food restaurant and start working right away while you put applications out for "real" jobs at least 3 times per week..
this way you can still have some kind of income and are leaving yourself open to the next good job that comes your way..
Trust me, fast food is a good inbetween place to go for an easy check while you get yourself out there and opened up for better things..
You will be ok if you dont stress and follow this tried and true advice...

I can halfway relate to what you've been through. In 2004 I lost my first job...I was pretty sad and felt out of place. However, I still live with my mother so I can't say that I needed the job. Good luck.

Ask yourself if there is anything you can learn from this experience. Make the change if necessary, and get out and find another job. Sometimes being laid off can be a blessing, if you were not suited for the job, or you lacked the skills to perform the job adequately. Brush yourself off, you haven't failed, just tripped.

Go on unemployment first off. Then ask from friends for a short term loan. also, look on craigslist or the papers for odd jobs. You can do it; just work at it. Work at fast food if needed. Just start working today and you'll get paid soon.
