Edit: or 8, if "minus twice the number plus one" is interpreted to mean -2(n+1) instead of -2n+1. Of course, the reason mathematical notation exists is to avoid such ambiguities.

You question is ambiguous:
do you mean
1/ Three times a number minus twice (the number plus one) is six.
or do you mean
2/ Three times a number minus (twice the number) plus one is six

let's call the unknown number "A"
if the problem is the problem 1/ we have
3xA - 2x(A+1)=6
which can be re-written 3xA -2xA-2=6
which means A-2=6 and then A=8

if the problem is the problem 2/ we have
3xA - 2xA+1=6
which means A+1=6 and then A=5

you've x + y + z = sixty six. you also know y = 2x, and y = z - 6. So 2x = z - 6, which says z = 2x + 6. putting this at the same time: x + 2x + 2x + 6 = sixty six, so 5x = 60 and for this reason x = 12. (So y = 2x = 24, and z = y + 6 = 30.)
