Immortality is a prime characteristic. Timelessness is another - which in some cases results in perpetual youth. Divinity is usually described as awe-inspiring, and the gods are very powerful (think of the Sun). They are also bright or shining (the words Deos, Deus and Daylight are close), noble, fertile, and beyond human. In monotheistic systems the Divine is omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, eternal and infinite. Typically the Gods represent cosmic order - chaos is ungodlike, even demonic. In Greece chaos was a goddess - Eris - although she wasn't what you could call popular.
