I live in an old house (big and secure) but old. The house has been preserved well over the years, problem is we can't get even the strongest man to open the windows. Any suggestions?!? There doesn't apear to be paint keeping them down and they are the old fashion kind with metal springs and brackets.

Windows swell so first try to work on them in cool conditions and low humidity. Try to just gently rock the window from side to side by holding it at the top and rocking it.You may have a broken or jammed chain and pully. You need to remove the jam around the window to get at that. Lots of how to books on that. Good luck

Don' be stingy.

Buy new windows.
Because yours are STICKING.

They are painted shut on the exterior. Because someone who doesn't know how to paint a window properly, painted them.

I'd buy Andersens, Narrowline.
