Means "green shoot" in Greek. This was an epithet of the Greek goddess Demeter. Chloe was the lover of Daphnis, the Son of Hermes, Son of Zeus & Maia. Daphnis was found as a baby by goatherders on the Greek island of Lesbos, suckling on a goat. Chloe was found similarly by Shepherds, suckling the milk of a ewe. Years passed and one day Daphnis was goatherding when he fell into a pit and was rescued by the beautiful Chloe. The two were married and lived out a pastoral life on Lesbos.
