Live your own life, be your own person and stand by what you believe in. Don't judge others for being ignorant and selfish, we all think at times if we have this or that we will be happy etc. Blaze your own trail and make a mark.

A person should consider whether they can continue to function normally around those people. If not, perhaps consider a major life change, such as a move to Irons, Michigan.

Depends.. what are this person own values? Does he approve or not approve.? Make the decision to tolerate the differences, or seek out new friendships?

He should take this insight and apply it to him self/realization of what is most important. What he will probably do, is succumb to the pressure to be like everyone else.
