I get annoyed when they call me at home but then I feel bad for them because their pay depends on how many clients they get.

Personally, I find it to be pretty irritating, but on the other hand it is somewhat interesting.

In India, telemarketing is a high class job, and many people aspire to work in the "call center". I was watching some program on TV about it, and it's kind of ironic how a job that is looked down upon in American culture is considered a high aspiration to some Indians.

I was a telemarketer for two weeks. It was the worst job I ever had. People say all sorts of nasty things to you. I had people tell me to slit my wrist, I didn't deserve to live, I was a piece of ****, and on and on. The quotas are intense and you really have to be a hard *** to handle the job. I had a horrible customer one day that made me bawl so I just quit. Couldn't take it.

No I am not one,, but I know how they work. It's a canned sales approach. They have a list of questions and answers ready for anything you can comeup with,so it's best to cut them off with "I an the do not call list" and I am. Yet my telep[hone servic eprovided "bell South has had these people call me at least once a month for two yrs.

It's a low end job like any other low end job. Ever been a CNA? You wipe asses all day. That job sucks too. But better to be employed than sit at home collecting welfare. Next time you people get annoyed at the telemarketers, remember that they get paid just to work so you can hang up on them if you like, but better they work than your tax dollars paying them to sit at home and do nothing.

I tried it but didn't last more than a week, mainly cause I got sick of people yelling in my ear and slamming their phone down. Not everyone is mean, but I'd say a good 98% of the people we call get waaayyy to agitated. Which is infuriating. Does no one have caller ID? Hello??? You don't have to answer the damn phone if you don't know who it is!!! We don't leave messages!!!! People, it's called screening your phone calls!!! I don't answer calls I don't recognize...it's not a rule you have to pick up the phone!!

To be a telemarketer, you would have to have pretty "thick skin" and not take things personally. I couldn't do it...for one thing, I think its an invasion of privacy and for another thing, I don't have thick enough skin...
