If you believe in Darwin's theory of evolution the egg came first. Dinosaurs laid eggs and the animals that came from the eggs began to look more and more like birds and then chickens. If you believe in Creation then the chickens came first because God made them. I don't think He made eggs first and expected Adam and Eve to sit on them for hatching.

In my religion, God created the chicken first, along with all other animals... It makes sense...How was Adam born with out a mother? Same thing with the chickens...
