No, they are not sexually transmitted. They are caused by bacteria and they are not contagious either.
However, you can decrease the risk of getting one by urinating after sex and also by wiping front to back to avoid wiping bacteria from your rectum into your urinary tract.

UTI is not sexually transmitted, although it may feel like it is. I've heard from many people, especially women, that they're more prone to get UTI when sexually active. It's recomended by doctors that you pee before and after you have sex precicely to avoid getting UTI, because obviously it cleans the urinary tract. And no, there aren't any other ways that it can be passsed from one person to another... it's all up to your personal hygene. I would also recommend to drink lots of water, that also helps avoid getting UTI.

A urinary tract infection is not a STD. but you can get it after having sex. Its a good idea to shower and "cleanse yourself" afterwards. A UTI is simply a bladder infection due to holding your pee to long. You cannot pass this on to a partner or whoever. But if your feeling the symptoms (frequent urination, burning, back pain) you should go to your primary care physician and get some antibiotics..

there are organisms that can cause UTIs which can be transmitted sexually, but usually it's fecal contamination from your anus which can be spread over to your urethra during sex. bacteria from your intestines may be happy there, but your urinary tract doesn't like them, so you get an infection. sounds gross, but it's the price we pay for having those two places so close together.
