dunno but I go by the time on my cellphone clock since I think it's one of those "atomic clock" things. It's actually true that standard time is something that was invented. In downtown Chicago there is a plaque commemorating the invention of standard time. It was invented in the 19th century because of the railroad. The trains had to run on time (or else presumably the risk of a collision would increase). I guess prior to that, the time in eastern Illinois and the time in western Illinois were not the same, because noon would be slightly later in a city slightly to the west. Apparently there was no "official" time prior to railroad time. I don't know how Greenwich Standard Time figures into all this, or why Greenwich in England was chosen as the standard of standards.

Technically... there's no correct time, since time is something people came up with to make their lives easier. And considering that before clocks, people went by the shadow of the sun... the time we have now can't be precise.
