Find the slope-intercept form of the equation of the line that passes through the points (4,3) and (-4, -4).

I know the slope is 7/8 but I don't know how to get the slope intercept form. Thanks for any help.

Slope-Intercept form is in the form y=mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept value of y...

You found the slope so I will guess that you know how to find that.. but for others if they need it: (rise)/(run) or (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

put that value in for m and you get y = (7/8)x+b...

now put in the values for one of the points for x and y and solve for b...

3 = (7/8)4+b
b = 3-(7/8)4
b = 3 - (28/8)
b = 3 - (7/2)
b = -1/2

now put this value into the slope-intercept form in place of b

y = (7/8)x - 1/2

you should check my work to make sure it is correct.

Slope intercept form is:

(y - b) = m(x - k)

Where m is the slope, k is the x intercept and b is the y intercept.
It is more commonly broken down into this form:

y = mx + b this is because usually the y intercept is found at 0 on the x axis.

so knowing m = 7/8, and using any of the points u were given we can find the y intercept (b):

so y = (7/8)x + b

using the point (4,3) we find b.

3 = (7/8)(4) + b
3 = 7/2 + b
3 - 7/2 = b
6/2 - 7/2 = b
b = -1/2

so slope-intercept form is: y = (7/8)x - (1/2)

the slope intercept form is y=mx+b

m is the slope, in this case 7/8

insert one point value into the equation....

3=7/8(4)+b
3= 7/2 +b
6/2- 7/2 = 7/2 - 7/2 +b
cancel...and subtract
b= -1/2

so the formula would be y=7/8x+(-1/2)

slope-intercept form is y=mx+b. m=slope, b=the y intercept. You know the slope is 7/8, so you have y=(7/8)x+b. plug in either of the points you were given and solve for b.

First you will need the slope. So, use the slope formula and the given points to do that. You must have done that when you obtained 7/8 for the slope. Then use the point-slope form: y - y1 = m(x - x1). Use either point for (x1,y1) (I would use (-4,-4) if were me) and the slope (m) you found. Manipulate the equation to solve for y and you will have the answer to your problem. Instead of me doing all that, I will let you do it

First you have to you point slope form to find the x intercept.

Then once you have that you plug into y=mx+b
m=7/8 b=x intercept so y=7/8x+?

The slope formula is (y-y)/(x-x) The y's are 4 and -4. The x's are the 3 and the other -4.
