Improve, a cool head (don't get surprised and break character), a good method actor can take on any role. People skills can help, too.

a clown is an actor, so he must have control of his body and voice. He is interpreting a character. Also he must be able to improvise, and to be believable in his clowning.

well, a clown must have good facial expressions and be very melodramatic, exaggerated crying, laughing, anger, etc.

they have to be good mimes and pysical actors. they also have to be o.k. with doing realy stupid stuff on stage.
