Of the dogs you mentioned, I would think you would be more satisfied with a bullmastiff. A bullmastiff would come closer to matching the temperament of your boxer. The bullmastiff would be more laid back, certainly not as active, but would be much more protective. I've never owned a dobie, but have known many that were very intelligent.... moreso than the boxer or bullmastiff. (Well, if you want brains, get a human... preferably a nice-looking one.) Having owned german shepherds, I cannot recommend them as a good companion for you or your dog. (Bet I get some flak for that statement!)

I would disagree about a bullmastiff if you want a traditional guard dog. They are not big barkers nor are they biters or anything like that. They do not take well to obedience training or 'security' training in a guard dog sense. They are certainly a deterrent because they are so big and powerful, but there are much better breeds if you want an early warning dog and a more agressive dog.

Make sure you do your breed research and talk to reputable breeders about any breed you are considering. A reputable, ethical breeder wants you to have a dog that's what you need; they don't just want to sell you a dog. If they don't think that a breed is right for your needs, they won't sell you a dog.

a female shepard would be a good choice as long as your boxer is not female. shepards are very protective and trainable as to how they should react but they are also very alpha dominate when it comes to other dogs
