If we pull out and they have a full scale civil war, so what?
a)iraq isnt' a natural country; it's hodge-podge of religious, ethnic and tribal groups caught within borders drawn by the brits after world war I.(read your history, they had the same problems that we're having now)
b)sometimes civil wars are the only way to sort things out (we had one, and that seemed to solve some problems)
c)we can't manufacture a strong leadership for iraq; only the iraqis can. and civil war tends to sort out leadership problems with everything else.
d)if the kuwaitis were right about what would eventually happen once saddam was dumped -that we'd get a saddam-like strongman who is focused on internal stability and economic growth, both huge targets that would be hard but not at all impossible to reach, especially with iraq's massive oil wealth -then we should let nature and humankind take its natural course.
the only caveat to this is that the turks will never let the kurds have their own country.

Lots of people argue that we shouldn't allow Iraq to have a civil war, because it's the US's obligation to ensure stability in the country after deposing Saddam. What most won't admit is that if it is the US's obligation, that's because it is also the US's fault.

Time to leave, and allow Iraq to deal with its own mess. If we don't like the results, it's trivial to take out the next govt, and the next, until they install one we like.

yes pulling back to regroup is a great strategy but not backing out of Iraq just regrouping in the east and let them kill each other then we go in and secure the country from any militias from forming so that a governmental army can be established and a justice system put in place along with the police force to enforce the laws set by the government both locally and nationally
kinda like what we have here in America if that is what the Iraqi people want and if its not then we stay there as a guest and leave when asked
no more American deaths should be the goal in Iraq
we fight to defend our freedom not to set the world free especially a world that might not want to be free.

Yes we should pull out and run. That way the terrorist can say they have beaten the great American war machine. Their recruiting would go up 1000%. They would have a place to set up lots of training camps and would be able to launch attacks on the U.S. with in 9 mo. To a year. Their not very good at fighting soldiers but as we all seen on 911, they are good at killing civilians. They could be killing Americans by the 1000s. I’m sure we all want our families to be in danger and not just the people of Iraq. We can fight them in the streets of America. Let’s bring the killing home.....

Lets get our troops out and safely home first, then I really don't care one way or another what happens in Iraq.

Good point. More reason for pulling out. Finally you see the light. = I don't support what you said just the end result of pulling out.

the hundreds of thousands of people who would die. what we should do is to give the Kurds their own country, just defend that, and let the Sunnis and Shiites kill each other.
