I have a usb key (or pen) as well and there is a super tiny switch on it that toggles between write protected and unprotected. Look for a little switch. I often accidentally bump the switch when I am holding the device. I don't even know that I changed the setting until I try to write to it.

there should be a little switch somwhere on the usb drive , it must be set to write protection which is set so your data isnt accidently erased. usually there are little logos on the side of the switch represnting a closed lock and an opened lock , for write protection and to turn off protection respectivly. just flip that switch.

Try saving it under a different file name or open a blank spreadsheet, word document, etc. and copy/paste the contents of the protected file into the newly open blank file.

try looking for a slider switch on the side of the hardware. Otherwise go to properties and locate write protection, if available.
