Use 2 12 volt batteries connected in series.

Connect positive (battery 1)
Connect negative on battery 1 to positive on battery 2
Connect negative (battery2)

If you connect batteries in parallel, (pos/ and neg/neg) the voltage remains the same, but the amperage doubles.

I assume that the separator has an electric motor. In which case, no you can't convert it to run on only 12 volts. It is easy to add an extra battery and create a 24 volt power circuit for the separator. The only other option is to replace the 24 volt motor in the separator with a 12 volt one.

Yep, just like the old days......you could convert a 6 volt VW to run 12 volt accessories, by using an inverter......try Pep Boys, Advance Auto, Auto Zone or google.com.

Buy a power converter/inverter. You might find one at a parts store. If not, try a truck repair business. They will no doubt have it, since most large trucks use a 24v system.
