I have heard this my entire life. Growing up with two brothers I had more rigid rules. I even hear it from my boyfriend. When I ask him things like how would you like it if I came in at 5 in the morning like you did that time, his reply would be "your a girl your not supposed to do that". I know that sometimes it is out of concern but sometimes its just plain sexist. How do you all feel about it? I am not accusing anyone of this I just don't understand. I don't feel weak or that I need to be protected all the time.

I was the youngest of four (two half-sisters, one brother). My parents were stricter on me too. I think another reason they do this is because girls are more likely to be attacked than guys. People generally perceive females to be "weaker" so they think they are easier to take advantage of. How many times in the movies do you see a guy stranded because of a flat tire? How many times do you hear of a guy being attacked on a dark street? I'm not saying we are weaker, just that everyone seems to think we are and if we want to change how they perceive us, then we need to prove that we are tough.

I know exactly what you mean. I don't feel like I need to be protected all the time, but people insist on doing so. And it pretty much pisses me off, because I'm a reasonably strong person and I go through stuff, and I can fend for myself. I'm a big girl, I can do it. Ya know?

Some of it IS out of concern, though, and that's good that some men feel the need to protect us from harm and that they are well intentioned. Sometime it's good to feel protected and safe, but when it comes to a point of control, it pisses me off, and they never figure out why. And I know what you mean with the boys being favored and treated differently than girls.

personally why is anyone comming in at 5:00 am in the morning. There are somethings because there are differences between the sexist that will always make somethings different, but the issue of coming in at a certain hour really isn't one of them.

Don't think you'd be able to replace your boyfriend with a man who things men and women are equal. The only men who think that are gay, or masochists looking for a whipping.

Women are ho's. Plain and simple. Every man knows that any woman can be charmed out of her underwear by any man driving a motorcycle. Women are just that easy. And no woman will tell the truth when confronted. Worse, women don't think they're capable of wrong and therefore justify committing heinous acts.

So that's why.

I fully agree with you. I was the oldest and we were all girls so it wasnt that bad for me, but I had friends who had brothers and the parents were so much more obsessive, protective, and careful with the girls. It drove them nutz!

Im raising my daughter to beleive she can do anything she sets her mind to. She is already a strong, spirited little girl. She has two brothers and I treat them all the same!

Because that is what society tells people to believe. I had to fight a guy in middle school once and I didn't need any help. What kind of boyfriend is that?

My advice to you is to stand up for yourself. Some good replies are:

"Your a boy your not supposed to run my life"

"Well I'd rather be a girl then a sexist boy."

If that doesn't work, you seriously need to get a new boyfriend, one who thinks boys and girls are EQUAL.
