There are a number of legal views of suicide.

Ironically, the punishment for attempted suicide in some jurisdictions has been death. Although a person who has successfully committed suicide might be thought to be beyond the reach of the law, there could still be legal consequences. For example, in the UK prior to 1961 their estate was forfeit.

because the person who committed suicide is called "victim".

he did it because he thought it was the best way he can do to free himself. he didn't kill himself because of grudge. it's a crime against himself... not a crime against another person or property.

there's no law punishing someone who did a crime against himself.

no felony... no violation against the law. legal.

It is illegal to the point of being forced to get mental help if an attempt is not successful. Of course, if it works they can't send you to the looney bin.

btw: The new statement would not be 'commit'. It would be attempt suicide. Not 'commit' but completed suicide.

It's generally not illegal, for itself. Because there is no way to enforce it if someone succeeds.

The only reason some states make it illegal is to justify making assisted suicide or attempted suicide illegal.

And we long ago gave up our rights to live our lives without govt control and regulation.
