Sometimes when I open a program and I minimize it, it doesn't appear on my start bar at the bottom of the screen, but other programs will, what's up??

You mean it doesnt appear on your taskbar? Then you missed the minimize button and clicked the close button!

It could be that you have more than one instance of the same window open -- like more than one e-mail message or more than one document. To save space on the bar Windows will group them together. You should see something like Word Document (3) and if you mouse over it it will show you the list of 3.
Otherwise it could be a property of the bar like it wants you to scroll to see what it does not have room to display. Right click on an empty area of the bar and look at Properties.

some programs go to the system tray instead of the start bar check there. the system tray is where the time is displayed unless you have the time and system tray disabled it sould be in the very right bottom of the screen

check your Task manager (to open task manager right click on the start bar and click on "Task Manager")

check if those programs are still running. If yes then there is a problem in those programs.

some programs are hidden or they go straitgh to the starup line not the start bar.

you can right click on the bar and go to properties and it gives you choices as to how to maintain items up instead of hidding them.
