My father is pretty tall, about 6ft and my mother is pretty short, about 5'2 and I'm 5'7 at age 17. Since most people say that growth is about your genes, why are basketball players so tall? My friend's mother is 5'7 and father is 5'11, but he's 6'3, and he plays basketball. Most of his siblings are tall, and they all play basketball. Are there a specific diet that may encourage growth? Doctor says I still havn't reached my potential, anything i could do besides lots of sleep?

ure friend could have taller grandparents or aunts or uncles...its just not ure parents genes they get theirs from generations b4 them...and no since ure about 17 ure done growin, so u are going to be around that height forever...and hey height isnt everything when it comes to Bball its about skills..u can be 7'8 but if u cant play u will always lose, and all bball players arent tall, i mean a lot of them are, but its also a few shorter ones that have the fast speeds, and the abilty to get away from a block better than a taller person

Yes, in the western regions we tend to eat healthier foods (believe it or not). This is why we grow taller. Corn is good for helping you grow.
