I don't think it's music, more so poetry. If Eminem was himself just without the tune he puts to his rap, he would be an amazing writer.

It's clearly music. If heavy metal, country and r&b is music, then rap is music. Some is good, some rap is terrible, so bad you'd think it was just noise. But it's music all the same.
I've hear heavy metal that sounds like pointless noise with absolutely no melody. And I've hears great Metal, like Enter Sand man from Metallica. It's all music.

It qualifies as music in that it has instruments and somebody "singing" even though 90% of it has no meaning and is completely worthless. Sure it's music, but I still think it sucks and is contributing to the downfall of a moral society.
