overclocking is possible.
BUT

you need good cooling system and good overclockable processor.

air cooling
firstly a case tower with 120mm fan on front and rear of case and on power supply as well.
secondly use a good cooler from artic cooling, thermaltake, or zalman. and you need a thermal past from artic cooling.

water cooling somewhat more expensive, but more performant and you dont need too much fan.

keep cool to get good overclocking result.

processor now.
you need

low voltage 1.3v is best
low cpu frequency like 133
big multiplyer 14x adn up

low frequency = a low front side bus(fsb).
a frequency of 133 will give a fsb533
the frequency times 4 = fsb

multiplyer times the frequency will give you the processor speed.

a good overclocking cpu will be the pentium d 805
cpu frequency 133
multiplyer 20x
this give a fsb533 not overclocked
a 2.66ghz processor not overclocked

using original fan overclocking best performance for d805
at 3.1-3.3ghz room temperature at 25 degree celcius
frequency 155
fsb 62
ventillation :
thats done with a 120mm rear fan and a 120mm powersupply fan, open side panel intake for cpu fan.

you see here that with a big multiplyer the cpu speed is faster when changing frequency. that only under good ventilation.
better ventilation give more room for overclocking
it the case of d805 with a bigger cooler from zalman or thermaltake, it could go to 4.0ghz

key to overclocking is
cooling
and cpu overclockability.
and right cpu voltage adjustment as you increase the speed
to much voltage damage and overheat the cpu.

so good luck with overclock
i cant tell more since i dont know which cpu you have.

Most people recommend not to overclock, especially with a dell pc. But I don't know much about this...

Unless you know about the special cooling systems for CPUs which are necessary to remove the extra heat, you are better off leaving your fingers off that!

Why? What do you do that needs done faster?

Overclocking is only asking for trouble.
