My baby just turned 10 months old. He is eating 3 meals of baby food a day and he is getting formula...how many ounces of formula should he be drinking at one time? I give him between 6-7 ounces...should I up him to 8 ounces? He was born 2 months premature and he weighs 20lbs...so he is a little small for a 10 month old but he is catching up.

I know full term babies who weigh less then that so your son is doing well. If your son is on solids he will be needing less milk, about 500-600mls daily (about 16 oz I think) is the norm. So if he is drinking more then there is no problem. Don't force him to drink more then he wants to. You could even offer baby juice with his solids instead of milk. As long as his first and last meal of the day is a bottle of milk.

I think 6 - 7 ounces at one time for a 10 month old sounds about right. But try 8 ounces and see what happens. Also, talk to the peditrician, they can give you some good advice on this and what and how your son should be eating.

Also, since you'll be switching him to whole milk in a few months, I would try adding some table foods if your peditirician is ok with that. Maybe two snacks a day, one in the morning in between breakfast and lunch, and one in the afternoon between lunch and dinner. Fruits, cut up very small is a good snack.

The more food they eat, they less likely they'll want to drink all their milk or formula.

He should have between 24 and 32 ounces on the average... But, if baby is having a ton of solids, that may replace some of the formula. It is always okay to give him 8 ounces. My guy pushes away the bottle when he is full.

look, the baby is doing great from my understanding. don't worry if the kid eats to much right now. at this time let him eat as much as he needs to. you decide that his stomach does. be glad he eats 3 meals and his formula, keep it up. if he wants more even better. try giving 8 to 9 onces. if he drinks it and still wants more that just means that the child is getting all the nutrition its stomach and body is asking for. YOUR DOING GREAT, DON"T WORRY.

if i fed my son as much as he wanted to eat he would be so fat i wouldn't be able to lift him. i have to monitor how much he eats. you can't always go by a baby's hunger and full cues. some babies will eat til they barf. i think if he is 10 months he should be getting 8 oz bottles. my son was getting 8 oz bottle at 3 months. so go for it. just don't stuff the little guy.

WELL I DON'T THINK THAT 20LBS AT TEN MONTHS IS SMALL FIRST OFF SOUNDS PERFECT. MY DAUGHTER WEIGHED 18LBS AT A YEAR AND SHE WAS VERY HEALTHY. IF YOUR SON ISN'T FUSSING FOR MORE FOOD THEN I WOULN'T WORRY SO MUCH. MAY BE BOYS ARE BIGGER MY SON IS 51/2 MONTHS AND HE WEIGHTS 16LBS 13OZ SO HE MAY WEIGH 20LBS AT TEN MONTHS O.K. MOST LIKELY MORE. HE EATS 3 MEALS 4OZ JAR FOOD AND 6OZ BOTTLE HE LOTS OF TIMES EATS ONE MORE BOTTLE BEFORE BED 6OZ AS WELL. HE SOMETIMES ONLY EATS 5OZ OF THE BOTTLE WITH HIS FOOD. LOTS OF PEOPLE SAY HE IS BIG NOT FAT HE IS BIG THE DR. SAID HE IS TALL FOR HIS AGE.AT 4 MONTHS HE WAS 26IN LONG AND HE WAS 20 AT BIRTH. SO HE IS TALL. IAM ONLY 5FT DAD IS 5FT 9IN SO AVERAGE NOT TALL EITHER.

Does he appear to be hungry when he gets down with the bottle? Does he scream for more? Take your cues from him, he is smarter then you think. If he is gaining weight, and happy, you are doing fine.

if he seems to not be getting full from the bottle try putting a few scoops of the rice cereal in the bottle.make sure you shake it up real good and you may have to make the hole in the nipple a little bigger.this worked for both of my boys
