I've recently started getting a warning window saying there is malicious software on my PC, and it gives the option of downloading a program to remove it. It appears now and then, but only when I use the Internet.
I click no, but is this a real 'Windows' warning, or is it spyware/ adware/ virus/ trojan, etc.? If it's a bad thing, what's the best way to get rid of it?

If it has any flashing parts, it's fake. BUT! Windows does give warnings like this, if you goto a site that distributes spyware and stuff through popups. My recommendation is, use Microsoft's Malacious Software Removal Tool, don't click on anything that pops up in your browser. This tool can be found by searching for Microsoft malicious software removal. Make sure you're on the Microsoft site, then click the link that says something like run the tool, or 'skip the details and run the tool'. Hope that helps!

This is called Virusburst or Virus Burst or a number of other names. It's a trojan to get you to buy their software but it's MURDER to try to get rid of. I tried a number of different sites/methods. Using adware removal software on its own is unlikely to get rid of it - I tried a number of them, including Ewido, without success.

Having been up most of the night the other day and trying different methods, the best site which DID get rid of it quite easily is found at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic63896.html and good luck. Follow the instructions to the letter and you won't go wrong.

It's a popup. It's advertising. They're trying to scare you into downloading this program, and the chances are that a tracking cookie has been downloaded by your web browser (which are harmless in themselves) that aids the targetting of such ads.

Response from you? Ignore it. Completely. And use a popup blocker.

If your web browser is Internet Explorer then go to the Tools menu, select Internet Options, then Delete Cookies (bang in the centre of the window that opens), and select Okay.

If your web browser is Firefox then go to the Tools menu, select Options, select Privacy, then the Clear button next to Cookies.

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

Adware causes unwanted ads to appear, sometimes this is the price you pay for using free software, other times it's completely unwarranted.

Spyware is software on your computer that spies on you - which websites you go to, which programs you use and in some cases reports back on your every move including sensitive data you may key into your computer (passwords, credit card details etc).

Malware is a generic term for 'bad programs', things like viruses and worms. These can do pretty much whatever the writer has programed them to do, they may be relatively harmless or may corrupt your entire computer.

No, but just had a spoof PayPal request for Acct information. Be aware.

Have had what you're referring to before - it's a rogue spyware plant to make you purchase that Company's software.

Sounds like an advertisement, but I would still run a spy scan and definitely do not click on the link. Peace!
