Having children is not the main purpose of marriage. You marry somebody because you love him/her and you wish to share that love forever. However, having children is really great and wonderful and it gives you the opportunity to extend your love. Some people can be sterile and that is a big deception for most of them;but being sterile doesn't mean you could not have a child or you will never be called mom or dad because there is a lot of children out there who don't have any parent who need love and they will be more than glad to have you as their parent ,to be part of your family.Trust me, adoption could be as great as if your children were born from you it just depends on the way you make it .
That said ,some people especially men don't like to get married with sterile partner and they can ask for divorce if their partner is sterile. So, what i suggest is to discuss that matter with your dude and if you discover that he may not like the idea of adoption ,then go ahead and take the test (both of you I mean) ;after you have the results you could find out if you still want to marry each other, that way you could avoid bein hurt twice. And if you wonder about the process I can assure you ,it will be as difficult as to lead a pregnancy to its end; but I know you don't believe you will get a wonderful child for free ,do you?
Hope you will enjoy it.
PS:whenever you come to adopt a child don't forget that adopted children are very sensitive and need a lot of attention but don't worry about that just do your best and you will be fine!
Best wishes for your marriage!
Good luck!

No, women do not take fertility tests before marriage for any reason that I know of. I know many married couples. None of them had the wife take a fertility test before the wedding. The main purpose of marrying someone is not to have children, but because you love that person unconditionally (which means no strings attached - love is not contingent on a set of requirements). A woman's fertility and a man's fertility can change for many reasons such as illness or injury. I know several very confident women who are unable to have children because of a problem with their husband's fertility. I also know a few who have chosen along with their husband not to have children and it hasn't affected their confidence at all.

Well, I find the whole virginity test thing quite humiliating. You have mentioned Rajasthan, India. But let me tell you this practice is not confined to our side of the globe. Lady Diana was also forced to undergo virginity test before being declared fit for Prince Charles. That was in The UK. Not so long ago, young girls from India entering Britain were made to undergo this humiliation, right at the Heathrow airport, before approving their immigration. This was done to determine to rule out illegal immigration...but HOW?!? "Smart & resourceful" girls these days are opting for hymenoplasty. Science has an answer for all moral problems, it seems... Edit: I think the question is not framed right. Hence this is so shocking to many people here! First of all, this so-called test is performed 'after' marriage...NOT BEFORE...as 'implied' in the main question. Read carefully, she has written 'bride' and 'bridegroom' not fiancee and fiance. Secondly, it is not conducted in the presence of village elders, as someone imagined, LOL! @ Sweet Pinki: How is consummation of marriage illegal?!? And the society she speaks of is not the one where girls go riding horses. In fact, they wouldn't even use tampons for the fear. Though I've not seen the said news item. I'm aware that in some cultures white bed-sheet is spread for this reason. It is all done discreetly. Sex is still a taboo subject in Indian society and virginity is still valued. Our young ones are not as promiscuous as those in other permissive societies. This is not to say that I approve of this practice. I'm all for chastity though! I'm writing to present a clearer picture...

if you're worried about that, you shouldn't be getting married. you've got other serious issues to deal with first.
most any one can "have a baby" through adoption.

I didn't....
...if a woman does, then the man should too... men can be sterile, it isn't always the womans fault they can't have kids.
