I desperately want a new job, but how can I attend job interviews when I can't take time off my current job to even go to any interviews?

DON'T call in sick and DON'T quit your job. You'll get a job much faster if you already have a job. If you call in sick and get busted, you can bet that you'll get punished for it, and if a potential employer talks to your former employer, your former employer can and most likely will rat you out.

Get an agency to set up interviews for you after closing time; i.e., if you get off work at 5.00, make your interview for 5.30 or 6.00. You can also schedule interviews during your lunch break, provided the company is VERY close, or before work starts, like 7.00 or 7.30 a.m. You can also schedule a first interview as a telephone conference. You can also take paid time off. You can schedule four to six interviews in a single day off of work, and if you take two or three, you should have a job at the end of one of those paid days off.

If you are THAT desparate to leave your current job, you will make one of these suggestions work, even if you have to get up early or stay out later than you wanted to. I have SEEN many an interview take place at 6.00 and 7.00 o'clock at night, and even very early in the morning. In fact, these gals were interviewing for my job as I was leaving the company, and the reason my EVP stayed till 7.00 p.m. was because the girls couldn't take the time off from work, AND they didn't want their employers to know they were seeking; both very viable and acceptable reasons for a later interview.

You always -- ALWAYS want to appear that you care about your current employer's time and that you do not appear to be 'robbing' your employer; another good reason not to "call out sick." This is fully dishonest, and anyone with half a wit would see it the same way. Integrity and honesty for your current employer translates as integrity and honesty towards your future employer, so don't bad-mouth anyone. And don't ever admit to leaving for more money; rather, you're looking for broader opportunities.

Good luck. And if you live in Florida, Georgia, Connecticut, New York, Louisiana, look up a company called Wellcare.com. A very excellent company to work for. They're in more states than those listed, and ever expanding.

Good luck!

Why do you not go along to Learn Direct - they will open a whole field of opportunities for you. I say this because you do not say what your specialized field is. Also as you have children how about teachers support assistant - then you can have the holidays free if that needs to be the case. I took on a whole new career in my thirties doing Home Help full time - really enjoyed this work and moved up the ladder in no time. Just an option at this stage, whatever decission you make I hope it works out for you and yours. One last bit of advice - stay away from scams I dont expect I need to tell you that they are not all what they seem.

Never EVER quit a job without having another one first! Try to get early morning or late afternoon interviews, or go on your lunch...Take a day off without pay if you must!

You will just have to apply during off hours until you have a GOOD interview and just take the time off.

What about taking a vacation. personal. or sick day. I know it sucks, but you have to save them up and get it done. You're leaving for a reason.
