Yet France had slaves in the new world, so did Britian and Spain. Also most slaves were sold by blacks in Africa. Is anyone else sick and tired of hearing this old troll?

FOr those that claim ritian ended slavery before the US, Research the Blackbirds who took "endentured" people of color to work in Australia and such way after slavery ended.
Slavery by any other name is still slavery.

People dog the US as we're the only ones that pay any mind to it, because we are inexplicably afflicted with an irrational guilt over events that took place centuries ago.
Slaves are still bought and and sold in places like the Sudan, but nobody says anything, because it's only considered slavery when whites are selling blacks.

Know what the irony to all this is?
The best thing that happened to blacks in America is that their ancestors were brought over here as slaves.
Seen the state of Africa lately? If not for slavery, blacks now living in America would still be in places like the Sudan -.being bought and sold as slaves

It is amazing to me that people for some reason want to forget that while slavery, which was NOT ended by the Emancipation Proclamation had lasting affects. How many ethnic groups in the US have gone through a demoralizng, dehumanizing and oppressive institution as such? Racism is NOT slavery so the comment about Jews, Italians etc is null and void. Last time I checked there were not laws forbidding a Jewish person to drink from a fountain or ride in a train car. Slavery is over but what you close minded unintelligent individuals seem to not understand is that while slavery ended other laws were enforced to subjugate Blacks to the same rules of slavery. Lynchings were rampant and these here U S of A was unable or better yet unwilling to do anything about it. Also other countries have admitted to their errors way before the US and so it only seems right that a nation that thinks they are perfect has its bandages removed and let the real wounds show.

I know I should not write this considering the close minded people who are commenting, but if my grandfather stole your land as the US did Native Americans would you want it back? Hell yes you would so why not restitutions to provide for the centuries of racial prejudice, Jim Crow Laws, and Bush. And to answer your question yes I would love Native Americans to have their land given back to them, bought from them legally or compensation paid for their treatment as well. I can never remeber a time when an Italian or Jewish boy was atomatically guilty, but I can't count on my hands the number f Blacks, Latinos and Native Americans that were. So if you are tired of pepople harping on the US tell the US to change and become what is it tries to portray itself to the rest of the worl a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities. Also just a point of refernece to see how intelligent you all really are. Did you know that the African population remained stagnant during the slave trade years? Does anyone know why? Welll lets think there was not rampant disease as slaves were being bough and sold and shackled and murdered. So one must deduce that the population remained the same because there was an as many leaving as being born imagine that, as many US citizens being kidnapped and sold as being born, which is funny because that number never reached the western world. So, I guess that makes the Afican Holocaust worse than the Jewish one. Damn!

Except that both of those countries abolished slavery LONG BEFORE the US did. And were involved in selling slaves to the main market for them, THE US. And many slaves in South America and the Caribbean were literally worked to death, so many did not survive. Africans have a totally different concept of slavery that does not usually include psychological and physical abuse. Most slaves there were repaying family debts, P.O.W.'s, more similar to the indentured servants. So they assumed that Europeans had the same idea. Slavery is not harped on, most American history books give it a section in a chapter at best, you just don't want to hear about. In my Am. His. class, we barely grazed the real slavery issues, the teacher only discussed it in terms of politics. And your forgetting, IT WAS REALLY BAD, I mean damn, try denying the Holocaust next and see what happened. It's history, it happened, you can't ignore it. I am sick of hearing about the damn Puritans, and the Federalist Papers, and the Revolutionary war, but I do it because it is the history of our country, and I MEAN OUR, not just YOURS.

Some mentions other races, but hello jews, italians, etc. CHOOSE TO COME HERE, and they can easily assimilate into white culture because they literally BLEND IN. I mean, come on. Yes the black community has issues way beyond slavery today, but don't point the finger at us for getting the advantages that people fought tooth and nail for in the 1960s. This country has a history of denying civil rights to people outside of the male wealthy WASP norm. So don't complain because minorities are getting some form of fair treatment.

Yes !!! I really do agree with what you said... Lets face it, even the Indians here in America (Enslaved) each other... The White People, the Black People to... what amazes me is that, alot of (People) still refuse to be (Believe) that Slavery does not (Exist) anymore, while they are (Believing) there are Off Shore Corporations all over the (World Practicing Slavery) China & tose (Sweat Shops) & so on, & exct. Slavery just may just be a part of the (Human Gene) Ants practice (Slavery) with a certain (Butterfly) The Ants will (Bit Off) the wings of this Butterfly to ensure the Ants that the Butterflies will not (Fly Away) & this Butterfly will make a certain kind of (Food) for these Ants, & the Ants once they have been (Satisfied) with this Butterfly, the Ants will allow the younger Butterflies to (Fly Away) so that these Butterflies can come back at a later time, & so the (Process Of Slavery) can be accomplished agin at a later time so that the Ants can have (Enslaved Farmers) to make theire Food for them. It's interesting how Slavery can get (Confused) with just (Humans) while the (Animal Kindom) is doing just the same as we Humans do. Now, please do not get me wrong because i do not like the thought of (Human Slavery) but I agree with the (Animal Kindom) because it works for them. rumeoui !

You are right, those things did happen, but Europe ended slavery long before we did and did it with out a war. Not only that, only a small percentage of slaves were sold to us by tribes, the large percentage were kidnapped or prisoners from neighboring tribes that were being sold. It is not like a dad was selling his son.

Yes, and most people don't realize that white were kept as slaves during the ottoman empire. And also, white slaves were brought to the states, they were known as conscripts. So please get over the slavery thing and lets move on to deal with the problems of the 21st century.

Well, what else is there for them to complain about anymore?! I know....what if I start the Miss White USA contest? Oh wait, can't do that. What about The White American College Fund? Oh wait, can't do that , either. How about The White Entertainment Channel? Noooo, can't do that. Hmmmm, sounds like all that is left to do is go way back in history and ask for some compensation. I think the Brits owe us some money for oppressing the first settlers!

Slavery in the United States started while it was still a British Colony. Many European and African leaders where complicit in the slave trade.

YES, and it evens pissez me off more when my neighbor starts buggin me about how he's due restitution! It's not like he was a slave, he moved here from South Africa 12 years ago. He says he moved here to get away from the problems in SA and then complains that our government doesn't do enough to help him.

Yes!
Stop playing the roll of victims and pull yourself out of your misery, just as the Italians, Irish and Jews did after the massive racism they faced upon their immigration to the USA.
