I live in Central Florida and I have a weed growing in my yard that sprouts stems that have sticker balls on the top of them. I've pulled them for hours at a time and I can't seem to keep up with them.

What are they, and what's the best way to get rid of them?

Obviously, they're weeds. Unless you have a broadleaf grass in your yard, like St Augustine, you can use a broadleaf killer, like Weed and Feed, You'll have to use it a few times a few weeks apart, AND you'll have to pull any at the roots that are near the sticker ball stage. They are really tough to get rid of because each sticker is a seed, but if you keep at it, eventually you'll get them all or most of 'em anyway. Just don't let them get to the sticker ball stage or you'll have to start all over.

We always sprinkled a little salt on our thistles in the lawn when they were small. The salt kills them. You can also try a vinegar/water solution. Just make sure you don't get the vinegar on any plants you DO want to keep...
