The idle speed should be close to recommendations especially if you have an automatic transmission. If it is idling too high with an auto it will slam into gear causing tranny damage. If it has a clutch it is not so critical but either way the setting on the idle does not make the vehicle faster. I don't know if that's what you were asking or not but I hope I have been helpful.
