I have been reading through the answers section and have found very rude comments towards people trying to get information about veganism. What is about vegans that is so threatening to omni's that they have to be so incredibly cruel?

I have nothing against vegans.

That said, many vegans do come across as holier-than-thou, believing that they are morally superior because they do not eat animal products. That is annoying, so I can see how people might be irritated with such people.

I didn't know they were. Everyone I know is very kind and understanding toward vegans. I went to a picnic 2 weekends ago, and we were told that there were 3 veggies and 1 vegan coming, so we all ended up bringing a vegan dish. The only downside, not as many desserts this year b/c everyone was concentrating on the vegan side dish recipes. I myself made a vegan roasted garlic potato salad and a vegan potluck pasta salad. Both were big hits. :) So this meat-eater likes vegans ... I am in awe of your non-meat-eating ways ;).

I haven’t been all that involved in the conversations concerning diet, but from my experience, the callous tone towards vegans and vegetarians in this country are primarily the result of how inconsistent many vegans and vegetarians are with respect to morality. I don’t think people find anything particular abhorrent about a person only restricting themselves to the ingestion of plant foods and products, but many professed vegans and vegetarians take political and social positions that are inconsistent with the compassionate reasons they became vegans and vegetarians in the first place. It’s this contradiction or hypocrisy that causes many to have such animosity towards their non-meat eating brethren.

Many vegetarians and vegans, for example, attribute their shunning of meat to the fact that it is an inhumane practice, but they have no problem with the proliferation of abortion in this country, or the shutting down of so called environmentally unfriendly businesses, which cost many people their jobs. In many people’s eyes, this is hardly compassionate

Granted most intelligent people know that ones dietary restrictions don’t necessarily dictate ones political and moral disposition. One can be a vegan and a staunch Christian conservative. Yet on the whole, vegans and vegetarians have been associated with a slew of radical left wing positions, which seem almost paradoxical. Its this associate between vegans, vegetarians, and the deplorable aspects of left wing politics that has put many of them in the crosshairs of other Americans. What you are seeing in “Yahoo Answers” is merely reflection of that sentiment.

The problem is that (some) Vegans have a attitude that they are some how better and more enlightened than omnivores. That some how they know better and that the rest of us are dumb. That the rest of us are cruel to animals when all we are doing is what our bodies were designed for...Eating vegetables AND meat.

People dont like to be preached to, don't like to be put down and people don't appreciate others assuming they are some how superior because of what they eat.

Now if people are going out of their way to be *******, that is going to your vegan question and being rude...Well thats just Yahoo. I personally wouldn't chime in just to be a dick...But as I said, here on Yahoo???? Well, there are a lot of ******* and thats to be expected.

In fact, if I were to have a penny for every ****** on Yahoo I would rule the world....then have them all executed.

But thats just me. =)

Those carnivores perceived vegans as weak. It's a misperception. Young vegans are often very sensitive and there is always some nut willing to volunteer to pick on the sensitive folk. The vegans will toughen up eventually and the carnivores will have to move on to weaker prey.

I think it's probably because most vegans try to preach to others and give them lectures that they shouldn't eat meat. Human beings are designed to eat meat (as well as veg.)

If a vegan wants to decide for themselves to go against their evolutionary tendency towards eating meat that's fine, but it's mental for them to try to make others do so.

Because many vegans find it necessary to harrass meat-eaters and act in a holier than thou fashion. Many vegans feel it's their sworn duty to beat everyone else over the head with their beliefs and convert everyone else to their lifestyle. Respect is a two-way street you respect us and leave us alone and we'll respect you and leave you alone.

We know the vegans are plotting to sell us all down the river when the animals take over. They are maneuvering themselves now to take the positions of the head slaves. THEY ARE TREACHEROUS AND SHOULD BE EXPOSED FOR WHAT THEY ARE.

I have to wonder about anyone that would use a poor defenseless plant as their food. These plants are grown in the most hideous of conditions and are occasionally eaten while still kicking and screaming! Where is our humanity?
