Most if not all laws are based on past court cases or the laws that were adopted from England when this country was formed. Until very recently, historically speaking, children were not valued as highly as they are now. With time and people like yourself, we can update these laws and create better ones to protect our children and secure justice from those that do them harm.

It is sickening and it's outrageous that child molestors receive such short sentences. And when people try to pass laws like Megan's Law that at least notify the neighbors when a molestor moves next door, even those things are challenged in the courts, often by the ACLU. We don't want to violate the rights of child molestors after all. The sentencing laws need to be much stronger, but since that kind of stuff is handled by the state, people need to lobby 50 different legislatures to accomplish this. It is not easy and it will take a long time.
Part of the problem with dealing out justice to these monsters is that while it is such a horrible crime, it's also a hard crime to provide evidence for. There isn't always enough convincing physical evidence when a child is molested. It can sometimes come down to "he said, she (or he) said." That kind of stuff doesn't hold up in court too well. Plus one has to take everything children say with a large grain of salt. They can be coerced by adults, they like to make stories up without realizing the consequences of lying, and they simply aren't the best witnesses for legal purposes.
Often victims don't come forward soon enough and after a lot of time passes, it's very hard to produce enough evidence to charge and convict someone. In the meantime, molestors often can move onto other victims. This kind of stuff needs to be reported ASAP, especially for evidence purposes. But due to the humiliating nature of the cime, it's easy to see why victims, especially children, don't want to tell anyone about it for a long time.
Furthermore, it's quite easy (and common) for mentally unbalanced or vengeful people to falsely accuse someone they don't like of child molestation. This has happened frequently enough that it casts doubt over any allegation of child abuse and makes proving real cases of abuse even more difficult.

I completely agree with you! A friend of mine got 21 years for robbing 1 empty house, and 3 empty businesses. I don't condone that, and yes he deserved to go to prison. However, he is locked up with many child molesters, none of them are doing more than a 5 year sentence.
It doesn't make any sense to me what so ever! My friend didn't hurt anyone, not physically anyway. However the molesters did physically harm people and ruined many children's lives. Yet they get a slap on the wrist. Of the 5 years that they got, we'll be lucky if they serve 2 of them. It's CRAZY!!!

Children fall through the cracks because parents are too busy to watch for the signs and it is unusual for an abused child to speak up. I agree that the system is messed up. Unfortunately until we put more resources toward social services and child protection agencies, I fear it will get worse before it gets better. Schools now teach kids about proper touching and about telling but some sickos will hurt a baby. I get nauseated thinking about it. They should all be put in the same prison to never get out and let them do to each other what they have done to others.

I totally agree with you! What can we say what can we do?? Welcome to the wonderful world that we live in! Sad I know! I wish there was more that we could do, but what can we do! If you have any idea I would love to hear them! You really hit home with me on this one, because I fear that my niece is being subjected to a child molester in her family and I am so afraid for her, my brother does not have custody of her, she lives with her mother and I don't know how to approach the situation plus I am here in Hawaii and she is in Arkansas so! If you come across anything that we could do please let me know! I am so afraid for her when I do get to see her she cries to come live with me, not her DAD (my brother) but me and it breaks my heart that I cant just bring her home with me, my husband and I would take her in a heart beat! So if anyone has any ideas for me please e-mail me and give Me some suggestions! Thank you for bringing this subject up! God Bless!
